BATMAN AND ROBIN 3 VARIANT COVER

I had a lot, a lot of fun doing this cover. I wanted to do something similar to my very first Batman cover, 670, but really didn't want to retread the idea. But this being a variant cover, I figured this is my only opportunity to do something similar but different enough to actually do. I mean how many covers are there that have Batman perched on some kind of gargoyle or rooftop? I'd say too many to count over the years. It's iconic and people want to see that, but as an artist, you try to bring something new to the common portrayal. I probably will shy away from gargoyle perchings for a good while now, especially since this one is out of my system.

Down but not out

This cover image was released a couple days ago so I figured I'd post it up here too. It's the last cover of Judd's arc before I take over as writer/artist. So this is 691. See the post below for the cover that starts my arc (692). There are a few clues as to the characters appearing during the story. I had fun creating this Two-Face Batman and was happy to know he'll get some 'face' time during Judd's run.

YES. YES IT'S TRUE

Big news today about my future in DC's The SOURCE.

Edit - Okay - so the news has broken. I've been handed the reigns as Batman's next writer/artist. I can't say, or I dare not say ;) how long I'm pulling double duty for, but this arc is six issues long so they've given me plenty of space to craft a story. A real, honest-to-goodness Batman story. ( I don't count BFTC because that wasn't really a Batman story at all, it was more of a multi-character event, told by three different characters, so you get it, it's not the same thing).

I've been allowed to come up with something on my own, from top to bottom, anything I wanted (not that they'd approve of anything but you know what I mean) and I'm happy to say they all agreed my plan for the next half year after Judd leaves will be the greatest thing since the internet was created. Just kidding.

What I can say is that I am a Batman fan through and through and I know what appeals to me as a Batman fan. I know what kinds of things make me excited about a Batman book and what intrigues me. So I'm very happy to get the chance to share that and to explore, and have the room to explore, what I believe makes a good Batman story.

Debating SDCC

I was going, now I'm not. Now I'm thinking of going again. It's been at least 10 years but only recently have I started to entertain the idea of returning. We'll see how many times I flip flop on this idea before next month.

Toying with ideas for upcoming covers

Sometimes I draw a cover idea and I like it but don't have a place for it yet. This is one of those. I may use something similar to this for an upcoming Batman story line. Usually it's left in pencil but I wanted to ink this and see how it looked.

I just finished planning the next half of year with my work at DC and things are about to get rolling again. Big news in the weeks ahead and I'm excited to share it.
