Battle For the Cowl in stores today

Okay, it's the big day. I hope everyone runs out and gets their copies. We broke 100,000 copies with the first issue and hopefully it goes even higher. A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into this so far and I'm excited for everyone involved. All I can say right now without giving spoilers is that things will get even more exciting in the next two issues. So read, hopefully enjoy.

Thank you

Tony

Just finished reading, great start. You've got a nice handle on all the voices, and your art has really lept forward, even since the last chapter of RIP.

Your new colorist does a wonderful job with your linework.Any chance this page will be released as a print?

The art was spectacular in the issue!

Question though: Is Damien in the "Network"? If it has to do with the greater story and you can't answer, that's ok.

I see it as one of 2 things: 1) He either STILL had the Batmobile from RIP OR 2) He's in the "network" but someone is letting a 10 year-old drive the car.

Holy fantastic art, Batman! This issue was awesome and even tho some were wondering your writing skills this was really good imo! :) But holy damn what really defines you Tony is your artwork, Killer croc, Black Mask, Jason Todd Batman and oh don't get me started on Poison Ivy were all just purrfecto!

Awesome issue!

I just read it and loved every page. Of course the pencils are gorgeous, no surprise there. But the writing was pretty good as well. Congrats, Tony, you really nailed this one.

I loved seeing Black Mask and all the other villains, especially the lesser known ones such as Humpty Dumpty and Jane Doe. And my fave Calendar Man was also there in one of the panels (yay!). I hope we see more of him.

The characterization of Alfred, Dick and Tim was spot on. The brat Damian has never been a fave of mine, but I admit I actually liked him here. I think Tony's decision to make him a little less know-it-all, and a little more "normal big-mouthed teenager jackass, ready to s*it his pants when Croc attacked him" was the right choice.

I won't spoil the last page. But W-O-W. Now THAT is the kind of kick-ass mofo I want on my side (LOL)!!! I can't wait to see more. And I want an action figure yesterday!

Tony, you are the man!

Both lineart and color are great! I love every characters you draw. For this issue, special love for Gordon, Tim, Damian, and Black Mask. They're totally awesome. :)
And let's not forget about Alfred. He's so cool. ;__;

Now I really feel like doing fanart.

Tony, MAN WHAT A OPENER!!!! I really think you have this writing down down pat. This was a good read from start to finish. The characters were up to par, their feelings were on target, and the mood was awesome. Gotham w/o Batman, is a Gotham with BFTC going on. Certainly, I'm getting 2 and 3. AND REALLY looking forward to teh aftermath in the "New" Bat Books that are here in June. Congratulations on a great book, you should be VERY proud of yourself, sir. I for one, have NEVER doubted you and your work, and this issue PROVES all of your so-called critiques wrong when they said one who draws can not be one who writes as well!!! Looking for another good one in April, and the conclusion on May, I hope their on time, and I vote for .... (I'll tell ya later

I though you did a great job in Battle of the Cowl.

Is there any reason why Huntress is in her Jim Lee costume, and not her latest outfit?

Mr. Daniel,

Congratulations on your release of BATMAN: The Battle for the Cowl. I hope you'll take a moment and read our review at www.speakingofcomics.com.

Really nice issue. And Nightwing is the man.

@Doop I believe Tony mentioned it elsewhere that he just thinks the bare belly looks better. I happen to disagree, but that's all from Gail Simone bringing to light the ridiculousness of it. "New costume?" "600 crunches a day." "Gotcha."

@Tony

Stellar art and a really fun story. Make Damian a bit more of a snobby asshole and it's pretty much what I hoped for from this event. I'll stick around for the next two issues. I'm sure you'll make them look fantastic. I have a question though. Is the costume from the newly revealed Batman and Robin costume the new bat-suit you designed?

Also, best of luck with Batman. I'll check here often to see what you're drawing for the book.

I didn't see your name attached to Morrison's new "Batman and Robin" series. What are your future plans?

Beam77 said...

Tony is drawing "Batman" with Judd Winnick.

Great work, Tony! Love the first issue. Artwork is top notch (as always), and the story is shaping up better than RIP. Looking forward to issue 2.

Amazing work!
Robin and Squire are a great little team!

The fell of the first issue blended well with Fabian's work on Robin and Tomasi's Nightwing. It adds a great layer of consistency.

I was very pleased and impresssed. Loving this series...
